CORE COMPETENCIES FOR NEW AND RENEWING MINISTRY

There are only two kinds of ministry in this time of profound and accelerating change, new ministries and renewing ministries. Many existing ministries are seeking the transformation that will sustain vital ministry in a new day. Others are sensing the missional opportunities that this new time affords and are considering or initiating fresh expressions of ministry. Yet, these new and renewing ministries require new approaches, forms of leadership and competencies. EDGE provides a facilitated cohort learning experience as a new and renewing ministry 101 course. It’s a practical and first level ‘how-to’ course based on the best of emerging practice and insight.

CURRENT COHORT GROUPS

Our first online Cohort focusing on New and Renewing Ministries will begin Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 1:00p.m. EST, and running every two weeks for six sessions, facilitated by Rev. Dr. Ross Lockhart.  The cost for this cohort group is $200.00 for the six sessions.

EDGE is also working with Kim Brandt to bring Breathing Under Water to church leaders and other pilgrims who find themselves overwhelmed.  For more information, please see www.kimbrandt.ca.

PROCESS

Cohorts consist of groupings of 6-8 congregational leaders who will meet together online through the AdobeConnect Video Conference System. The group will have an EDGE facilitator who will offer content or curriculum material along with a reflection/discernment model during each session.  The initial curriculum material will be based on congregational renewal and development.  This online learning opportunity will:

  1. explore the various stages of new ministry assessment, visioning, resourcing and planning
  2. give leaders a place to:
    • Learn
    • Share resources
    • Reflect on their experience of the changing church, and
    • Receive and offer support
